John and Roberta Ridd at Topshelf Creative in Gibsons were invited to tour the building and grounds in the autumn and share their idea of how to tell St. John’s story with design. They heard all about the vision of the congregation as expressed in our 'Renew 22’ plan. They listened carefully, asked questions and took lots of pictures. Out of that meeting came a beautiful logo representing of the faith, joy and harmony of our congregation.

Symbols that John and Roberta combined include:

water: a sign of blessing, baptism and our life together on the Coast
trees: a sign of growth and an echo of the ‘Into the Light’ banner. The trees are a visual feature of the existing window in the sanctuary and a reminder of the ‘garden’ of Creation that we cherish
sun: a play on words, Jesus the ‘Son’, the light of life and the sun, the primary symbol of  energy, growth and abundance
treble clef: a reminder of the joy of worship, our love of music and the harmony of our fellowship
All the symbols are gathered around and embraced by the cross, the centre of our life in faith.

Like the stained glass windows that grace the physical sanctuary, the logo will be the ‘stained glass window’ on our social and print media, on banners and signs and advertisements.

My congratulations to our Board for the vision and support behind this project. The new logo ‘catches the eye’, inviting people to come see what we’re all about at St. John’s.

Blessings,

Rev. Jamie Bushell
